Safety. Dignity. Health. Life. This February, we come together to explore what it takes to protect the rights that belong to every one of us.

We, as humans, are all different. We have different personalities, different characteristics, different faiths and religions, we are born in different regions of the world, with different backgrounds and roles in society. No two people are, or can ever be the same, yet there is something connecting all 8 billion of us - we are all members of the human race, equal, and united by the fundamental rights we all have. Everybody, regardless of age, gender, race, sexuality or religion has the right to safety, dignity, health and life. In a world where these human rights are so often breached, we can never hope to achieve world peace, justice and sustainability, or to evolve, not only individually, but as a society. It is the very creation of a society in which everyone is seen and heard that lies at the very core of the United Nations, as well as the Model United Nations community. In today’s world, new conflicts and issues emerge, leading to more violations of fundamental rights, hence there is only one thing that we must never stop protecting and fighting for - humanity itself and the people that make up what we call “society.”

For this reason, during the year of the 25th anniversary of the International European School in Warsaw, IESMUN is returning in the second edition under a theme underlining its very core values: “Humanity in a world connected by rights,” a topic focused specifically on protecting human rights across the globe. Over 4 days, between the 25th and 28th February, delegates will have the chance to explore all aspects influencing human rights and their enforcement around the world, and at the same time, exploring the longstanding tradition of advocating for human rights and equality at IES.

By debating environmental influences, international laws and world conflicts, impacting the lives of all people, delegates will have the chance to learn the true value of diplomacy, unity and equality, while also building new friendships and having fun.

Dear prospective delegates, chairs and participants,

On behalf of the entire IESMUN secretariat and organising team, we are delighted to announce that International European School Model United Nations is back for its second edition, which will take place between the 25th and 28th of February in Warsaw, Poland.

Upon first hearing of MUN, many people find themselves scared, not understanding the nature of the event, only thinking of it as hard work and stressful public speaking. But it is after finally going to the first conference that delegates grasp the immense joy that comes with being able to debate and come up with real solutions to the issues in the world around us. At IESMUN, we work to create an environment where everyone can feel comfortable debating, developing and growing academically, exploring the modern world of politics. Through this, we can pass on the core values represented not only by our MUN conference but also our entire school community. In the 25 years of our school’s lifetime, all students of IES were left with the message, “Don’t be indifferent,” and this is the exact idea we want to pass onto all participants of IESMUN - we must be able to see and hear all people to meet their fundamental rights.

For this reason, we would like to sincerely invite all of you to Warsaw, the stunning capital of Poland, to debate during IESMUN, as well as to experience the beauty of the city, and to open your eyes - not only to the views, but also to the people around you.

UNSCUnited Nations Security Council

Maintains responsibility over the maintenance of international peace and security – is the primary governing body of the United Nations. Despite its characteristic, challenging, structure it invites ambassadors to dynamic cooperation and discourse.

FSCFuture Security Council

A forward-looking simulation of global security challenges – anticipates the geopolitical, technological, and environmental risks of tomorrow, encouraging delegates to craft innovative and proactive solutions.

HRCHuman Rights Council

The principal UN body dedicated to promoting and protecting human rights – investigates violations, shapes international human rights standards, and fosters diplomatic dialogue on global injustices.

ECEuropean Council

Defines the general political direction and priorities of the European Union. Delegates explore the challenges that bring European leaders to the same table.

WHOWorld Health Organisation

Promotes health, keeps the world safe, and serves the vulnerable: ensuring universal access to health coverage, protection from health emergencies, and overall well-being.

CCCrisis Committee

A decision-making body with the power to formulate conclusions and plans pertaining to the perpetration, mitigation, and response to disasters. *The topic is not disclosed until the day before the conference.

UNWUnited Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women

Committed to advancing gender equality and empowering women worldwide – works to eliminate discrimination, promote women’s rights, and support female leadership in political, economic, and social spheres.

UNODCUnited Nations Office on Drugs and Crime

Leads international efforts in combating illicit drugs, organized crime, corruption, and terrorism – fosters legal frameworks and cooperative strategies to promote justice, security, and sustainable development

UNEPUnited Nations Environment Programme

Serves as the global authority on environmental issues – works towards sustainable development, climate action, and the protection of natural resources through international collaboration and policy implementation.

FRONTEXFRONTEX

The European Border and Coast Guard Agency – responsible for monitoring and securing the EU’s external borders, preventing illegal migration, and coordinating efforts to combat cross-border crime.

UNHCRUnited Nations High Commissioner for Refugees

Provides vital protection and assistance to displaced persons. Also works to safeguard refugee rights, ensures humanitarian aid, and works towards long-term solutions for asylum seekers and stateless individuals.

HCHistorical Committee

Committee focusing on discussing situations from the past, with a specific focus on human rights crises, encouraging delegates to question solutions that have already been adopted, and come up creative ideas to prevent such conflicts in the future.

CJEUCourt of Justice of the European Union

The supreme judicial authority of the European Union, located in Luxembourg. Its role is to make sure EU laws and policies are interpreted and applied uniformly and justly in all member states.

UNICEFUnited Nations Children’s Fund

The primary UN body mandated to protect the fundamental rights of all children. It acts upon child abuse, works towards all children worldwide achieving uniform healthcare and protection, and advocates for children in underprivileged regions of the world.

CSTDCommission on Science and Technology for Development

UN body focusing on discussing all new science and technology and the impact it may have on people around the world. It was originally created to guide the future work of the United Nations, as well as develop common policies and agree on appropriate actions relating to any new technological developments within the member states.

TBAA committee to be announced

A fun, unique committee, to be created by the chairs of the conference, making it an outstanding experience for all participants!
